Bathroom Refresh: A Spa-Like Transformation

In the late 1980s, this bathroom was considered very much on trend. Like many homes of that era, however, the finishes had become dated, and one design feature no longer worked for today’s lifestyle. The linen closet, located directly beside the bathroom entrance, made the doorway feel cramped and awkward to navigate. Combined with the wall tile that had seen better days, it was time for a refresh.

Rather than changing the footprint of the room, we focused on making thoughtful improvements that would enhance both function and style. 

To create a more open feeling at the entrance, we redesigned the linen storage with separate upper and lower cabinets. By recessing the upper cabinet several inches, we gained valuable elbow room without sacrificing storage. 

The vanity was enlarged to maximize storage, and an undermount sink was selected to provide a seamless countertop that’s both beautiful and easy to maintain. 

Warm matte gold plumbing fixtures and coordinating cabinet hardware replaced the original finishes, adding a sophisticated touch while complementing the room’s calming color palette.

The Details

The homeowner envisioned a space that felt like a personal spa—a place to begin and end each day with a sense of calm. 

Benjamin Moore wall paint color "Ocean Air" creates a serene backdrop, while the Green Terrazzo Hexagon floor tile from Best Tile in West Springfield introduces subtle texture, movement, and a fresh pop of color. 

The quartz countertop, featuring delicate light gray veining, adds understated elegance and pairs beautifully with the warm gold fixtures. Even the smallest details were carefully considered, including a charming wall-mounted towel hook that is as functional as it is beautiful. New light fixture and mirror completed the look. 

This remodel was done in collaboration with Tom Paull of Classic Home Improvement. They did the install as well as the bathtub and shower, which turned out perfectly.
